These benchmarks are to provide a general view of the speed differences between various
cards available for Unix users, and someday to compare if there are
differences between Linux and FreeBSD for DRI use. I have removed the old benchmarks and the unfinished stuff. The system is a Athlon 1800+ XP processor (1530Mhz), 512MB RAM, FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE as of Jan 31. The desktop is 1600x1200, so video memory is limited on the cards. Also, note that XFree86 only changes the video mode instead of resizing the screen, when vidmode is applied (e.g. in quake3 at 640x480 I don't have more memory available than at 1600x1200). Mesa Demos:Compiled with no special options, but linked to libGL in a shared way, rather than the static way Mesa's compilation system defaults to. The Mesa demos are from Mesa 3.5 CVS as of 2001-07-21, and the binaries are available in the files section. The Mesa demo rates are the "stable" numbers after a few runs. Best viewed on a freakin' huge screen. The XFree86 4.2.0 was the 4.2.0 port that was removed from CVS for 4.5-RELEASE (recovered with CVS). Kernel modules were 0.9.5. Notes: ATI cards had excessive fogging in the 'fire' demo, compared to runs with LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set. They also had errors about buffers being used by the X Server pid that were owned by pid 0. This issue has been discussed on the mailing lists, at a fix may be in GATOS.
