Once the package builds finish, they are usually uploaded to
ftp-master.FreeBSD.org
within a few hours. This
is a manual process, so that portmgr can inspect the output to make
sure that there are no unexpected problems. Note: before the upload
runs, the RESTRICTED
packages are deleted.
Further note: any old packages are not automatically deleted by this process. This allows people who do not have the latest ports tree to still use packages. Once every few months, they are manually deleted to save space on the FTP servers.
It is up to the individual mirror administrator how often they
update from ftp-master.FreeBSD.org
. If they are
using cvsup
, this is probably once an hour. However,
not all the mirror sites are administered equally. (Note, too, that
not all sites mirror all buildenvs; the space requirements for nearly
17,000 packages across 12 buildenvs is quite large.)
Therefore, it was necessary to create a new page to show a summary.
