You can help with this project!
I need some help from people who (preferably) meet the following
qualifications:
-
Hands-on experience with setting up and maintaining dial-in servers
based on FreeBSD
-
An hour or two to invest :-)
-
A spare machine with a modem or two, and with ethernet card
You can help me in two ways (I think the first is simpler and easier)
-
Send me working examples of configuration files, which (when applied
to generic system) will produce working dial-in PPP server. I AM
reading the handbook, but my experience in this particular area is NULL, so
I'm not likely to produce something usable in the nearest future.
- or, Get a copy of
the "ISP" floppy, boot it, and tell me
what is missing/wrong with the setup, basing on your experience and
preferences.
- You can also get the scripts I used to
create the floppy, and tweak them to you liking, and then send me the
diffs...
Keep in mind the purpose of this floppy: to enable an ISP to start a
small (perhaps even diskless) dial-in machine, which could authenticate
the customer and offer him a PPP connection to the Internet.
Thank you in advance - your input will be invaluable, and hopefully
will result in cheap and reliable alternative to commercial comm servers.
This is what I'm dreaming of... :-)
