We are excited to announce the Call for Presentations for the BSD, illumos, OpenZFS, bhyve Devroom.
This Devroom aims to provide a dedicated space for presentations covering four project sharing roots, code and philosophy :
- The BSD family of OSes: NetBSD, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and all derivated projects
- illumos, the successor to OpenSolaris, and its various distributions such as OpenIndiana, OmniOS, SmartOS/Triton, and Tribblix
- ZFS, the filesystem originally developed by Sun, open-sourced in OpenSolaris, and integrated in FreeBSD and NetBSD
- bhyve, the BSD hypervisor, available in FreeBSD and illumos
Key dates
- Submission deadline : 1st December 2025 Brussels time
- Announcement of selected talks : 15th of December 2025
- Conference dates : 31 January & 1 February 2026
- BSD devroom date : Saturday January 31th, 2026 afternoon (second half)
Practical
General details
- The default duration for talks is from 15 to 30 minutes including discussion.
- If you plan to register your proposal in several tracks to increase your
chances, don't ! Register your talk once, in the most accurate track.
If the BSD devroom is not your first choice, just let us know, and give us a chance to save you a slot in case of rejection by the primary track.
For accepted talks
- You will receive an email to tell you that we accept your proposal
- Expect additional emails with more instructions
Desirable topics
We aims to host talks covering one of many of those topics : BSD and illumos operating systems, bhyve hypervisor, OpenZFS
The talks can cover the following subjects:
- internal hacker discussion
- real-world examples
- presentations about new and shiny features
- community discussion or presentations
Submit a talk
The Pretalx system is now open for applications.

Your submission must include the following information :
- The title and subtitle of your talk (please be descriptive, as titles will be listed with ~500 from other projects)
- Select "BSD" as the track
- Select "Talk" event type
- A short abstract of one paragraph
- A longer description if you wish to do so
- Links to related websites / blogs / ...
