FreeBSD/ps3 August 14, 2011 Nathan Whitehorn =================================== Required components: - Sony Playstation 3 with OtherOS capability - Small USB stick - Blank CD Instructions: First, acquire and install a copy of Petitboot from http://ozlabs.org/~jk/projects/petitboot/ Then download a supported powerpc64 FreeBSD release (9.0-RELEASE or newer), and burn it to a CD. Copy /etc/kboot.conf and /boot/loader.ps3 to the USB stick. It may be possible to integrate this with an existing Linux distribution or the bootloader. Connect a monitor set to 480i or 480p, and boot into Petitboot. Insert the CD. Select 'FreeBSD Install' from the menu. In the installer, make *sure* to select ps3disk3 as the destination. The root filesystem must be the first GPT partition on the disk (this is the default). Reboot, eject the CD, and insert the USB stick. The FreeBSD choice in the menu should now start your installation from the internal hard drive.
