MRI results To: David E Obrien From: PEARL SOO-JIN KIM MD Received: 5/23/2016 5:13 PM PDT Hi David, The MRI shows spinal stenosis, disc bulges, disc degeneration, arthritis (facet hypertrophy, facet sclerosis, neural foraminal narrowing), slight shifting of your bones. All these are wear and tear changes which have the ability to cause pain. Dr. Kim The lumbar spine vertebral body heights are maintained. There is moderate L2-L3 disc space narrowing with minimal retrolisthesis of L2 on L3, mild L4-L5 disc space narrowing, and minimal retrolisthesis of L5 on S1. There is mild broad-based L2-L3 circumferential disc bulge, without causing spinal canal stenosis, a mild L3-L4 broad-based disc bulge causing mild spinal canal stenosis, and a moderate-sized broad-based asymmetric left-sided L4-L5 circumferential disc bulge which in conjunction with ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and facet sclerosis is causing mild to moderate L4-L5 spinal canal stenosis. There is moderate to marked bilateral L4-L5 and moderate bilateral L5-S1 neural foraminal narrowing, encroaching upon the respective nerve roots. The visualized paraspinal soft tissues are grossly unremarkable. ** IMPRESSION **: Multilevel lumbar spine degenerative disc disease, including minimal retrolistheses of L2 on L3 and L5 on S1, causing mild L3-L4 and mild to moderate L4-L5 spinal canal stenoses. Moderate to marked bilateral L4-L5 and moderate bilateral L5-S1 neural foraminal narrowings, encroaching upon the respective nerve roots.
