As the full-time CTO of Walnut Creek CDROM, I was responsible for the development and promotion of the FreeBSD operating system, a BSD 4.4 Lite based operating system for the Intel Architecture (PC platform). I was also the release engineer for all FreeBSD CD release products. Walnut Creek CDROM was acquired by BSDi in February, 2000 (see BSDi entry).
FreeBSD was used extensively by Walnut Creek CDROM for providing everything from their industrial-strength anonymous ftp server, ftp.cdrom.com (the busiest in the world) to their internal routing, DNS, WWW, and NFS services. It was also sold as a popular product on CD ROM (see the FreeBSD CD).
