Dublin, Ireland July, 1992 - November, 1993Consultant / Principle Engineer
On contract to, and later as a fulltime Principle Engineer for Lotus Development:
Initially on contract to Sun Microsystems, I worked on porting the AmiPro (now Lotus Word) wordprocessor application to use OpenLook and run on several UNIX platforms. To facilitate this, the OI Toolkit was first used, later changing to UIM/X and Motif as Sun decided to de-emphasise OpenLook.
On the second phase of this contract, now directly for Lotus Development, I worked on porting NOTES to the Sun (SunOS 4.1.3) and SCO ODT 2.0 platforms. This involved considerable porting work and a lengthy QA period during which bugs were found, fixed, and tracked through a fairly complex system involving an international tracking database, an external testing team and frequent video teleconferencing with the U.S.
As a Principle Engineer, my responsibilities included:
Continued development on AmiPro, on the Sun and IBM RS6000/AIX platforms using the Motif development environment. This involved substantial liason work with the U.S. group as we worked on developing new source code management systems and release engineering (1 direct report).
I was responsible for overall system management of the development network and designing new methods for managing software development in a highly heterogeneous networking environment (1 direct report).
Responsible for maintainance and further development of Lotus 1-2-3 for all UNIX platforms (2 direct reports).
