Bruce M. Simpson

About me

I am an alumnus of the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, CA, USA, where I was a researcher in the Networking Group for 2 years, working with Atanu Ghosh and Pavlin Radoslavov, and specialising in Internet routing infrastructure; Project XORP. I was primarily responsible for the port of the XORP router to Microsoft Windows.

I have worked extensively on FreeBSD for the past 5 years, and have a breadth and depth of experience across most major operating systems. I continue to work on FreeBSD as it supports the ongoing work of the XORP project, though this is done mostly as an unpaid volunteer. I specialise in network and systems-level development, drawing on the major networking technologies, including: TCP/IP, Ethernet, ATM, Wi-Fi, SONET, and MPLS.

Current Activities

For more detailed and up to date information, please see the Networking Wiki. There is a repository of current patches.

Support my work

Special thanks to Garance Drosehn for being the first person to donate to my FreeBSD development fund. I hope to develop a more detailed plan for the development of this infrastructure in future, including budgets; you are literally getting more of me, after all, my cells need renewing every 7 years.

I can accept donations directly via PayPal. All financial gifts received in this way will go towards supporting my development work on FreeBSD. Unfortunately such gifts are not tax-deductible under US or UK tax law; if this is a requirement for you, please consider making a donation to the FreeBSD Foundation instead. Such donations cannot be earmarked for specific individuals or for specific projects under US tax law.

If you are a UK tax lawyer or accountant willing to work on a pro-bono basis to help educate the UK government about open source, and why it should be a tax deductible and funded activity, rather than just a short-sighted way for government to save money, please contact me. If you are a Conservative MP, please do contact me about any undisclosed plans your party has to directly fund open source development.

Consulting

I am available for projects through my consulting company; please contact me to discuss opportunities. I am based in London, N1 within easy reach of the City and major airports.

Papers (in LaTeX and PDF format)

More often than not, I don't finish papers unless they are directly relevant to project work I have done or am doing; most of the time I am focused on writing code. More will be published in future.
